How to Play The Six Degrees

The Puzzle Layout

Every puzzle has seven phrases arranged vertically. The first and last phrases are fully revealed. The five middle phrases have empty boxes where letters are missing — your job is to figure out what goes in each box.

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Start at the top. Read the first phrase carefully — it sets the theme and gives you a starting point.
2. Fill in the blanks. Each empty box represents a missing letter. Type the correct letter into each box to complete the phrase. When you get a phrase right, the row turns green.
3. Follow the chain. Each phrase connects to the next through wordplay, associations, or shared themes. Think about what links the phrase above to the one you are solving.
4. Use hints wisely. Stuck? Tap the hint button to reveal one correct letter. But each hint costs 1 point on that phrase, so use them sparingly.
5. Solve all five. When all five middle phrases are complete, the puzzle is solved. Check the story to learn about the historical event behind today's puzzle.

Scoring

You can earn up to 15 points per puzzle — 3 points for each of the five middle phrases. Every hint you use on a phrase reduces that phrase's score by 1 point, down to a minimum of 0. A perfect score means solving every phrase without any hints.

Difficulty Modes

• Hard Mode (default) — All missing letters are hidden. Maximum challenge.
• Intermediate Mode — The first missing letter in each phrase is revealed automatically, giving you a head start.

Tips

• Read all the revealed phrases first before filling in blanks.
• Think about common compound words, idioms, and pop culture references.
• If a phrase has only one or two blanks, try those first — they are often easier.
• The daily theme (shown in the puzzle description) can give you a helpful nudge.
• Come back every day — new puzzle, new connections!
